Professor of Economics
Andrew Allen holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Illinois. He is currently serving as associate provost for the University of San Diego. Previously he served as the interim dean and associate dean for the School of Business Administration. He teaches economics and statistics at the undergraduate and graduate level, and in both the Masters of Science in Executive Leadership and the Masters of Science in Global Leadership. Outside of the traditional economics and statistics courses, Allen teaches electives in Sports Economics and in Law and Economics.
Allen's current research projects are related to issues surrounding the residential housing market in San Diego. Those studies have been produced for the San Diego Building Industry Association and for the City of San Diego. Allen's past research projects involved economic impact studies. He has produced economic impact studies for several local businesses and organizations, including the Buick Invitational Golf Tournament, Del Mar Thoroughbred Racing, the Del Mar Fairgrounds, San Onofre Nuclear Power Station, Market Creek Pizza and two studies for the San Diego County Taxpayers Association regarding the San Diego Padres Ballpark project.
Before joining the faculty of the University of San Diego in 1984, Allen taught at Illinois State University and San Diego State University.
