The Supply Chain Management Institute, directed by Joel Sutherland, was created in 1999 and today has a rightly deserved reputation for supporting the development of exceptional professionals who are sought after by industry and the public sector alike. The SCMI Advisory Board consists of senior executives of firms recognized as being on the leading edge of their respective industries and fields.

USD’s MS-SCM is one of the leading programs in the world, possessing both Institute of Supply Management (ISM) approval and Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) accreditation. USD’s MBA concentration in supply chain management equips students with the skills and capabilities to be highly effective decision makers and USD’s BBA minor in supply chain management has grown in popularity because it delivers a highly relevant education and business exposure for students embarking upon their professional careers.

SCMI is committed to the development and dissemination of knowledge and best practices for enhancing overall performance in integrated logistics and supply chain management. To accomplish this, SCMI focuses on three areas:

• Collaborative Relationships: Work with business partners through applied research while simultaneously providing mechanisms to expose affiliated faculty and students to current issues through industry-based projects.
• World-Class Education: Support undergraduate, graduate, and executive education by providing relevant programs focused on helping industry realize the benefits attainable through effective supply chain management.
• Applied Research: Identify and propose real-world strategies, processes, and systems that are at the forefront of efforts to improve performance in supply chain management.

SCMI disseminates its insights and best practices through graduate web-based programs, residence programs, executive education, and semi-annual Forums.
