Greetings Fellow Toreros,

I would like to first take this opportunity to thank you for allowing me to serve as your student body president for the 2009-2010 school year. My years at USD have been amazing and I am excited for the year ahead!

As students, we make up the largest organization on campus, the Associated Students, also known as A.S. for short. The Associated Student Leadership Team is a dedicated group of your peers who serves as your student government ensuring your voice is heard on all matters relating to the University. A.S. hosts student senate every other Thursday where we discuss and vote on various issues. All students are welcome to attend! We also provide funding to the clubs and organizations on campus; host an assortment of events such as concerts, comedy shows, athletic tailgates, Open Mics, Homecoming and much, much more. Additionally we address student issues brought before the Senate and look for other resources to help students.

Those are just a few of the many functions of A.S. This year the A.S. Leadership Team has a full agenda with a list of goals we plan to accomplish to help make your time at USD even better. We are looking to increase school spirit and community on campus. Two years ago, the A.S. President’s Spirit Trophy Competition was introduced. The level of spirit and attendance increased tenfold at the events on campus. It is with much excitement to announce that we will be continuing the competition again this year.

We hope to increase the awareness of diversity on campus, tackle transportation issues, and utilitze the new Student Life Pavilion to its greatest potential. We need your help engaging our campus community as we unify the Torero Spirit.

The 2009-2010 AS Leadership team is a hardworking, enthusiastic group of students who are here to serve you. If you ever have any issues to discuss, ideas for events, want to get involved or just need someone to talk to feel free to come visit us. We all hold office hours so we can be accessible to you. Our offices are located in SLP312. Our doors are always open!

I look forward to meeting you, and get ready for a great year! Go Toreros!
