Young Alumni Network

The University of San Diego Young Alumni Network is intended to connect recent graduates through networking, social events, and other shared experiences. This page will serve as a central hub for communication. Encourage your USD friends to like the page and stay connected!

Working in collaboration with the University of San Diego Alumni Association, the goal of the Young Alumni Network at the University of San Diego is to create and maintain an association dedicated to serving the social and professional networking needs of those alumni who have graduated within the past 10 years, including graduate alumni under the age of 35; facilitate an atmosphere where young alumni can come together, collaborate and communicate with each other; and foster young alumni programming.

Information about the Young Alumni Network

History

USD has over 54,000 alumni across the world and 38% of them have graduated within the past 10 years. The university has been successful in their efforts to foster various opportunities for all alumni and has been interested in ways to better connect with their young alumni.

In the process of developing a strategic plan, the USD Alumni Association Board of Directors expressed a desire to create more opportunities for USD’s growing population of young alumni. USD Alumni Board member Rhett Buttle ’07, took on the project to develop a proposal to foster relations among young alumni. At that time, Buttle researched various universities similar to USD to see how they achieved this goal.

During the summer of 2010, he recruited fellow alumna, Sydney McRae ’09 to assist in the development. The two began recruiting alumni to form a working group of over 30 young alums to further grow the project. The group split into working committees: communications, structure and programming. These committees were chaired by Zerlina Wong ‘08, Laura Warren’08, and Erica Lovano McCann ‘05. The team spent several months researching and discussing different tactics to best serve the needs of a young alumni community at USD. After hard work and dedication, the Young Alumni Network was created.

The purpose of the Young Alumni Network is to help recent graduates transition into engaged alumni who remain invested in the University for years to come. Some of the many services the Young Alumni Network will provide include:
  • social events geared toward young alumni
  • professional webinars to aid alums in life after college with topics such as how to eliminate student loan debt or negotiate a salary
  • a network where young alumni from around the world can share stories and stay connected

University of San Diego alumni who have graduated in the past ten years are invited to participate. To receive updates or get involved connect with us as a member or through one of our social media venues. We look forward to the future of the Young Alumni Network.
