Events Descriptions
Online Student Profile & Blog A select group of SOAR members will be chosen to be profiled on the Admissions website to provide prospective students with a personal view of USD. These selected SOAR members will be required to provide weekly updates of their college experience.
Online Chats At various dates throughout the year, the Admissions Office hosts online chat sessions for prospective students to communicate with current USD students about campus life, residence halls, majors, and the admissions process. Chat volunteers enjoy a pizza dinner and then participate in the two-hour chat from 7-9pm.
Fall Open House In November, we will be hosting our Fall Open House where prospective students and their families will be on campus to get acquainted with the facilities and academic programs. SOAR will participate as greeters, tour guides, panelists, and lunch minglers.
Local College Fairs SOAR members will represent USD throughout the year at many college fairs held at high schools, convention centers, and community colleges in the San Diego area. SOAR members accompany an admission counselor to the fair and assist with setting up displays, handing out recruitment material, and interacting with hundreds of prospective students about USD.
Student Panels Counselors from the Admissions Office give presentations to large groups of prospective students often using student panels. The purpose of a student panel is to present the audience with a diverse cross-section of the USD student body and allow them to ask SOAR members questions about student life and academics in an open forum.
Home for the Holidays During Winter Break, SOAR members are encouraged to share their USD experience with current students at their alma mater. A visit to your old high school is set up with the counseling office, and the Office of Admissions will provide you with the materials and training to talk to students interested in attending USD.
Day Visit Hosting Admitted prospective students in the spring have the opportunity to visit the campus for a few hours to shadow a current student. SOAR members act as their host and take them to class, lunch, and also spend time talking with them about USD.
Multicultural Experience (ME@USD) Overnight Program Hosting As one of the most popular SOAR events, admitted students in the Spring have the opportunity to visit USD and spend the night in the residence halls with a current student. Our students serve as their host and take the prospective student to classes, dining halls, and show them everything USD has to offer!
College Visiting Day In the Spring, the Admissions Office invites all admitted students and their families to visit campus for a large open house event. The event requires our student volunteers to welcome our guests, lead tours, sit on student panels, and help these admitted students see themselves on campus as future Toreros!
Admitted Student Congratulatory Phoning In the Spring, SOAR members spend a few hours calling admitted students around the country to congratulate them on their acceptance to USD and answer any questions they might have about the campus and student life. SOAR members will be able to talk to students about living in the residence halls, what classes are like, and how the food tastes etc.
Group Tour Guides

A USD Group Tour Guide is a part-time, compensated position that requires additional interviews and training if selected. Group Tour Guides lead USD's group visitors from local schools, AVID, Upward Bound, and other various organizations. Tours are one of the most influential factors on why students choose USD as their home!

(There are a very limited number of new student tour guide positions available. Only members of SOAR will be considered for Group Tour Guide positions)
Executive Board

The Executive Board (E-Board) is the student-comprised governing body of the Ambassadors Club. There is a President, Vice President, Director of Communication & Historian, Director of Events & Programming, Director of Community Relations, Director of Finances, and Director of Retention Initiatives. Elections are held at the end of each Spring semester and provide great leadership opportunities for these student leaders!

Retention Events

Throughout the year, SOAR members will coordinate and participate in retention events designed to create and maintain a sense of belonging for members of SOAR and the USD student community as a whole.

High School Visits

SOAR members that have been trained by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions will have the opportunity to visit local high schools and speak to prospective students about the University of San Diego while also sharing their experience as a current student.

Community Building Events

Throughout the year, SOAR members will plan and coordinate various events that are designed to promote diversity and inclusion. These events are also designed to encourage the USD campus community to embrace different and understand how diversity within a campus community benefits everyone.
