Post-MSN Family, Adult, and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Certificates

Admission

  • A MSN degree from an approved, accredited school
  • Current California RN licensure
  • One year of clinical experience preferred
  • Basic computer literacy
  • A GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Completion of the University Application for Graduate Admission, including application fee
  • One official transcript from each college or university attended
  • Three completed recommendation forms (included in the Graduate Application)
  • Resume
  • Interview
  • Current baccalaureate level physiology and health assessment knowledge/skills
  • Student Nurse Practitioner professional liability and malpractice insurance coverage which must be maintained throughout enrollment
  • Evidence of specified immunizations and screening tests, a report of recent physical examination, and BLS certification
  • International applicants must meet additional requirements for admission http://www.sandiego.edu/admissions/graduate/international.php
  • Note: Applicants with equivalent course work or who can demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills can request exemption from specific course requirements.

The application deadline is March 1. All materials must be received by this date.

Curriculum Plan

The Post-MSN Nurse Practitioner Certificate programs require the completion of 34-38 units. The programs can be done in 1-1/2 or 2 years of part-time to full-time study. The course of study is planned on an individual basis to meet the needs of the student.
