Toreros in the Community
Ongoing
Mentoring Program at Kimborough Elementary School . Student-athletes dedicate 1-2 hours a week working with elementary school children in the classroom. This program was developed in association with Athletes For Education (AFE). As of Spring 2005, we have 17 students involved.
Montgomery Middle School Projects
Spring 2004: Running Club
Student-athletes took part in a running club at Montgomery designed to encourage wellness.
Fall 2004
Brandon Gay, men's basketball, organized representatives from most of our teams to speak to physical education classes at Montgomery about what it was like to be a college athlete and a college student.
Longfellow Elementary School
Fall 2004
The cross country team helped students celebrate “Dia De Los Muertos” by working at different activity tables and directing the “Loteria” (Mexican bingo) game.
Spring 2005
The cross country team will help kick off a running program.
Annual Projects
TLC(Torero's Linking to the Community) Toy Drive & Donate-a-Dollar collections
Benefits over 50 local families with holiday gifts and grocery gift certificates. In association with the Mission Valley YMCA.
Junior Seau's “Shop with a Jock”
The event pairs USD athletes with a child from a San Diego Boys and Girls Club for an hour-long shopping spree at a local department store. In association with Junior Seau Foundation
Kids Day Out (formerly called Girl's Night Out)
Celebrates the achievements of local and USD female athletes and supports USD women's basketball in celebration of Women and Girls in Sports Day. Local sports groups and recreation programs are invited to come to campus for mini-clinics and a women's basketball game. Click on the heading to see pictures from our recent Kids Day Out.
