Mozilla Thunderbird for Windows

Welcome to the tutorial for Mozilla Thunderbird for Windows. This tutorial will teach you how to set up this software so that you can check the messages in your USD e-mail account.

Help: If you have any questions or need assistance with Mozilla Thunderbird, please contact the University’s Tech Support Center at 619-260-7900 or visit us in the Hahn University Center, 117 (adjacent to the Torero Grille), Monday-Thursday, 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. and Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

1. Launch Mozilla Thunderbird

2. Setup an account.

  1. Click on TOOLS.
  2. Select ACCOUNT SETTINGS.

3. Fill in the following parameters in each window:

a. Under OUTGOING SERVER (SMTP) Settings, click ADD.

b. The DESCRIPTION can be left blank. The SERVER NAME is smtps.sandiego.edu. Check the box for USE NAME AND PASSWORD and enter your MySanDiego username. Click OK.

c. Click on ADD ACCOUNT, located at the bottom right hand of the window, and an Account Wizard will show on the screen. Click NEXT.

d. Enter YOUR NAME and your sandiego.edu EMAIL ADDRESS in the appropriate cells.

e. The INCOMING SERVER is pop.sandiego.edu. Click NEXT.

f. Your INCOMING USER NAME can be your username. Click NEXT.

g. And your ACCOUNT NAME can is you e-mail address. Click NEXT.

h. After verifying the information, click FINISH.

4. Now Thunderbird will ask you for your password. Enter your USD password and click OK. If you want the program to remember your password, check the box. If Thunderbird does not ask you for your password automatically, click the GET MAIL icon at the top right hand corner of the screen.
