Where do we get our data?
The Equinox Project sources data from publicly available data sources such as the U.S. Census. Data on specific, local topics are often collected by nonprofit organizations or businesses, and they partner with us to share information on the Quality of Life Dashboard. Equinox researchers analyze data to determine trends and add context with content on regional policies, projects, and partnerships. Learn more about data sources by indicator.
How do we track indicator performance?
The Equinox Project monitors annual trends by identifying main datasets for each indicator and analyzing them. These updates typically occur annually, but may be updated more or less frequently depending on the data source and the nature of the data.
While the Equinox Project values data-guided decisions, its researchers also prioritize holistic evaluations. Some factors that play a big role in quality of life are not easily measured. When assessing the rating of an indicator, researchers consider trends in data and additional context provided by policies, expert opinions, recent events, and other information. For any questions and comments about indicator performance, please contact us at ttinkler@sandiego.edu.
Improvement
Considering the data and the context surrounding the indicator holistically, this indicator improved from the previous year or has maintained a positive status quo. We are trending in a direction towards a better quality of life.
Mixed Results
Some aspects of this indicator have improved and others worsened. The net results of these changes do not show an overall improvement or worsening of the quality of life.
Worsening
Considering the data and the context surrounding the indicator holistically, this indicator worsened from the previous year or has maintained a negative status quo. We are trending in a direction away from a better quality of life.
How often is data being updated?
Indicators are typically updated annually, but some charts and maps may be updated more or less frequently depending on the data source and the nature of the data. Updates are published on a rolling basis, so please visit the Quality of Life Dashboard throughout the year for different updates.
I have data, can it be shared on the dashboard?
The Equinox Project Quality of Life Dashboard is an ever-evolving resource. As new data become available, our researchers work to assess which data will best expand the quality and content of the indicators. As a project dedicated to tracking trends in the San Diego region, data that has been consistently collected over a period of time and tell a relevant and insightful story of the region are greatly appreciated.
