Fifteen students from five Southern California universities gathered at USD to discuss the Declaration of Independence on its 250th anniversary.

The University of San Diego’s Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) program is built around close mentorship, rigorous discussion and real chances to test ideas beyond the classroom. Recent graduate Damiera Cruz ’25 exemplified that approach, earning spots in several competitive, discussion-driven programs that sharpened her scholarship and broadened her network. According to Damiera, “PPE at USD provided me with the framework to understand society’s driving factors and created opportunities that helped me personally and professionally.”

School of Law to Honor Distinguished, Rising Star Alumni on Nov. 13 The University of San Diego’s School of Law will host its first-ever virtual presentation of its traditional Distinguished Alumni Awards event with a 90-minute livestream program to air on YouTube at noon this Friday, Nov. 13.

Conor Dougherty, author of Golden Gates: Fighting for Housing in America , participated in a virtual discussion with Matt Zwolinski, a professor of philosophy at the University of San Diego and director of USD’s Center for Ethics, Economics and Public Policy, on Sept. 23.

The second Homelessness and Food Insecurity Action Week will run from September 22-25 and will feature six different events — all virtual presentations — covering housing election ballot issues, guest speakers, a tie-in with the 2020-21 USD Just Read! Program and a chance for students to connect with potential community service organizations.

The University of San Diego and San Diego County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher announced on Monday the launch of Innovate Up , a new public-private partnership to provide a free, immersive and integrated small business program designed to support those in the communities of Chollas, City Heights, Encanto, Linda Vista (home of USD campus), Rolando and Redwood Village.
