SAN DIEGO (September 5, 2025) - Congratulations to University of San Diego (USD) School of Law Board of Visitors member Tom Fetter ‘67 (JD) who San Diego Rotary has named “Mr. San Diego 2025.” A longtime businessman and philanthropist, Fetter is the 71st recipient of the Mr./Mrs./Ms. San Diego Award, recognizing his more than six decades of leadership in business and community service. This annual award is given to a person who has contributed outstanding community betterment to the San Diego region in a variety of ways, through his/her efforts over a long period of time.
At 91, Fetter remains active as CEO of T. Fetter and Co., Inc., which operates as SanDiegoCarCare.com offering Chevron gasoline, car washes, convenience stores and related services in five San Diego locations. A San Diego Rotary member since 1983, Fetter has dedicated his life to advancing many of San Diego’s leading institutions.
“Naming Tom ‘Mr. San Diego’ places him among a roster of impactful San Diegans and formally recognizes his contributions to the city. He’s still very active and is an inspiration to us all,” says Wendy Urushima-Conn, club president, San Diego Rotary.
Fetter has served on numerous nonprofit boards, including The Bishop’s School, the Fleet Science Center, the San Diego Yacht Club, the San Diego Zoo, the San Diego History Center and the USD School of Law. His leadership also extended to USD School of Law, where he led the effort to raise $11 million for the law school’s 2008 Endowment Campaign.
Fetter, and his wife, Jane, were the 2024 recipients of the Patrons of the Prado Icon Award. The award honors individuals for their positive community impact and support for arts and culture.
In a San Diego Foundation article, Fetter said, “I'm a firm believer in the value of giving your time and talent. Giving back to the community was something our family values deeply. In many ways, it is just part of everyday life.”
Fetter will be honored at a luncheon, which is open to members and guests, on Thursday, October 16, at the Liberty Station Events Center in Point Loma. To learn more and to register, please contact the San Diego Rotary Club Office at jordan@rotary33.org.
