Mentor Collective

SAN DIEGO (June 3, 2026) – The Mentor Collective program at the University of San Diego (USD) School of Law continues to redefine the student experience by bridging the gap between the classroom and the courtroom. By linking current law students with a dedicated network of alumni, the program facilitates a high-level exchange of ideas, professional ethics, and career strategy between seasoned practitioners and the next generation of legal leaders.

As we enter the 2026–2027 academic year, USD Law is actively recruiting alumni who graduated between (2) and (15) years ago—specifically targeting the Class Years of 2011 through 2024.

Bridging the Professional Gap

The Mentor Collective’s online platform is more than just a networking tool; it is a structured environment where attorneys guide students through the complexities of strategic career planning. Mentors play a pivotal role in helping students navigate the high-stakes transition from the academic rigor of USD Law to the practical realities of the legal profession.

This is your opportunity to invest in the professional DNA of the next generation of USD attorneys. Mentorship is a mutually rewarding endeavor, offering alumni the chance to refine their own leadership styles while directly contributing to the strength and reputation of USD’s legal community.

FAQ: Everything You Need to Know for 2026

What defines an alumni mentor?

A mentor is a guide, a role model, and a strategic resource. Beyond sharing specific legal knowledge, mentors help students understand the nuances of legal culture—the unspoken rules and professional etiquette that are critical to long-term success but are rarely found in a textbook.

How does the matching process work?

The Mentor Collective utilizes a sophisticated, data-driven matching survey. Alumni and students are paired based on:

  • Professional Goals: Specific career interests and practice areas

  • Shared Experience: Over 80 dimensions of identity and affinity, including background, life experiences, and common interests

  • Demographics: Ensuring a connection that feels authentic and supportive.

What are the primary goals of the program?

The program is designed to equip students with the tools to make sound, long-term career decisions.

  • It is not a job placement service. Instead, it focuses on the "long game"—helping students develop the leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills necessary for a fulfilling career

  • Mutual Growth: While mentees gain career clarity, mentors experience gains in coaching skills and community building, strengthening the USD Law alumni network across the globe
