This is your USD News Minute.

Cheer on the top five finalists of the 2026 Torero Entrepreneurship Challenge on Wednesday from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. virtually. This annual entrepreneurial competition helps aspiring technology innovators sharpen their venture-building skills and get a chance to compete for up to $21,000 in seed money. Applications are open to apply to be a part of College Corps. College Corps is a community engagement program that provides undergraduate students opportunities to become social change agents and leaders in their communities. Students complete a minimum of 450 hours of community service during an academic year and, in turn, receive up to $10,000 in scholarships. Apply at the link above.

Last week, the USD community came together for the 2026 Research and Scholarly Achievement Awards and Reception. It was an opportunity to honor faculty research and creative works, outstanding mentors, and campus-wide grant successes. 

Join the Torero community on Friday to retire the late Brian Matusz's jersey in a pregame ceremony on the field at Fowler Park. He was an alum and a record-breaking MLB pitcher. The ceremony will start at 5:30 p.m. And, on Saturday at 5 p.m., don't miss the USD Baseball game where our new men's basketball head coach, JR Blount, will throw the first pitch.
