USD to Host San Diego Diocese’s Rite of Election on March 1

On Sunday, March 1, 2026, the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego will host the 2026 Rite of Election at the University of San Diego. The ceremony will take place in the Jenny Craig Pavilion from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., and approximately 4,000 participants from parishes throughout the region are scheduled to attend.
The Rite of Election is an important annual celebration in the Catholic Church, marking the transition of catechumens and candidates into the final phase of preparation for the sacraments of initiation. USD is honored to host this event for the first time.
The USD community is asked to join in welcoming guests to campus for this significant event in service to our local community.
Campus Traffic and Operations
Please expect increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic on campus beginning at approximately 1:30 p.m., with peak arrival traffic between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. and departure traffic from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Surrounding roadways and parking areas near the Jenny Craig Pavilion may experience temporary congestion and delays during these times.
Department of Public Safety personnel will be on site to assist with traffic management. All community members are asked to follow posted signage and the directions of DPS officers when traveling through or around the event area to help ensure a safe and orderly flow of traffic.
