Dean Chell Roberts Named One of San Diego Magazine’s “50 People to Watch”
San Diego Magazine recently released its “50 People to Watch in San Diego, 2026” issue, featuring people from across the county who are working on projects and changes that will support the region for years to come.
On that list is Chell Roberts, PhD, dean of the University of San Diego's Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering. Under Roberts’ leadership, the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering is recognized among the best undergraduate non-doctoral engineering programs in the nation by U.S. News and World Report.
Roberts and other leaders across campus are at the forefront of implementing a transformational gift from Darlene Marcos-Shiley for the Shiley STEM Initiative, which will support students with research scholarships and a brand new, state-of-the-art STEM facility to promote cross-disciplinary learning and projects that will have a global impact.
From serving as the founding dean of the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering since 2013 to leading one of the nation’s top undergraduate engineering programs, Dean Roberts continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible in engineering.
