Events and Projects

At the University of San Diego, the Mortar Board chapter agrees upon certain community service projects to which the members devote their time, energy and experience. In the past, these projects have included mentoring Upward Bound students from Kearny High School, participating in the AS Community Service Halloween Carnival, and fundraising for the USD Mortar Board annual scholarship known as STRIVE (Seeking to Recognize Individual Visions of Excellence) Scholarship, which is awarded to Kearny High School seniors each spring.

Fundraising events are often creative and fun. Several fundraising events are held during the year in order to raise money for the STRIVE scholarship. In the past, these events have included carwashes, parking space drawings (each semester) and a Service Fundraising Drive, where members were given donations for a number of hours of service performed.

In addition to service activities, Mortar Board members host a Faculty Appreciation Dinner each February, during which the chapter honors the USD faculty members who have had an impact on the members’ intellectual advancement.
