Areas of Expertise

Professor Hoyt teaches the Alternate Dispute Resolution Team and Fundamentals of Bar Exam Writing. Kathryn Hoyt is also the Director for Student Life and Inclusion. As the Director for Student Life and Inclusion, she oversees and facilitates inclusive programming, ADA accommodations, and law student organizations. Hoyt is an alumna of the University of San Diego School of Law where she earned her JD.

Professional Experience

Prior to USD, Hoyt was a litigator and trial attorney at major defense firms in San Diego and Riverside and specialized in labor and employment law and workers' compensation defense. She defended employers in all types of labor and employment claims, including wrongful termination, harassment, discrimination, disability-related claims, wage and hour claims, serious and willful misconduct, and Labor Code 132a claims. She also provided counseling and advice to employers on a range of employment-related issues, including hiring, promotion, discipline, termination, leaves of absence, and employment policies and procedures.

Hoyt has a BA in Political Science from UC Berkeley, a JD from University of San Diego School of Law, and is an active member of the State Bar of California.
