Coyote Brush (Baccharis pilularis)

Coyote brush, also know as Chaparral Broom and Bush Baccharis, is a common evergreen shrub in the sunflower family that is native to California, Oregon and Baja California. It can be found in a variety of habitats from coastal bluffs to oak woodlands. It has a variety of growth forms from upright mounding to prostrate spreading, but all forms are generally 3 to 9 feet in height with a maximum width of 12 feet. The plant is smooth and sticky with small leaves and white to yellow, rayless flowers that bloom in the early winter.
The wood of the coyote brush is used by the Kumeyaay for shelter construction.
