Among the highlights of Pope Francis’ apostolic visit to the United States, at least deserve special attention. First, On Wednesday, September 23rd, he will official canonize Junipero Serra – the first time a pope has performed a canonization in the United States. Next, on Thursday, September 24th, Francis will visit with President Obama at the White House before becoming the first-ever Pope to address a joint session of the U.S. Congress. Finally, toward the end of his week-long stay, Francis will celebrate the concluding Mass for the World Meeting on the Family in Philadelphia.

During this visit, Pope Francis will also offer a blessing and some brief remarks to the clients and homeless guests gathered at lunchtime for the St. Maria Meals Program of Catholic Charities of Washington, D.C.; visit with 3rd graders at Our Lady Queen of Angels School in East Harlem, New York; and meet with inmates and their families, as well as prison staff, at the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility in Philadelphia.
