Didactic Training

Interns receive a minimum of eight hours of didactic training per month, though at some times of the year, they receive considerably more (e.g., during orientation). Though seminar topics remain relatively consistent, they may be revised according to community provider availability, emerging staffing, and clinical or training needs. Some seminars are taught by Counseling Center staff, some by our USD Wellness colleagues, and others are taught by volunteer members of the community. In addition, we integrate interns into our all-staff In-Services and day-long, periodic continuing education programs. Those topics vary year to year, depending on the needs of the staff.

Additional Continuing Education: USD MHBH is certified as a provider of accredited continuing education for psychologists by the California Psychological Association Provider Approval System. Programs attended by all clinical staff are sponsored periodically and interns are encouraged to attend these free of charge. Recent topics have included Cannabis Characteristics and Clinical Considerations of Resiliency Development in Psychology.

Interdisciplinary Team Meetings

The Mental and Behavioral Health Team (MHBH) includes the Student Health Center (SHC), Disability and Learning Differences Resource Center (DLDRC), Counseling Center (CC), and Center for Health and Wellness Promotions (CHWP) and works as an integrative multidisciplinary team to provide students holistic support. Interns participate in several integrated care team meetings (INCA) monthly (at times may be included as part of didactic training) and will have the opportunity to present and consult on clinical cases as part of their training to assist with professional development and interpersonal communication with a treatment team. Various training topics, general information, and updates necessary for successful practice in the Wellness setting will also be included as part of the interdisciplinary care team meetings.
