Upcoming Events: Open to the Public Defenders on the Frontlines: Aspirations and Realities Human Rights Day is December 10, and this year marks the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. To recognize this milestone, the Kroc School is hosting a timely discussion featuring three human rights defenders. Monday, December 10 12:15 p.m. U3A brings together avid learners, 55+, to hear from some of San Diego's top leaders representing a variety of industries such as: business, government, military, medicine, health, science, technology, arts, literature, religion and education. Freedom of Speech in Schools: Tinker v Des Moines Join the School of Law in a panel discussion and reception in honor of this landmark US Supreme Court decision that established students' First Amendment Free-speech rights. Wednesday, February 20 5:30 p.m.
Did You Know? Crisis at the US-Mexico Border: A Call to Action Did you know that you can help in this humanitarian crisis? USD has developed a synopsis of the issue, how best to support, and ways to get involved. USD Launches Local Vendor Initiative As part of USD's commitment to being an anchor institution in San Diego, the Local Vendor Initiative was recently launched to promote local food vendors in Linda Vista, City Heights and Barrio Logan. Showcase the diversity of San Diego at your next meeting or event! USD Helps All Students Reach Their Potential USD has a message for students who were once in the foster care system, homeless or at risk for homelessness. "We recognize that things have happened to you in your past," said Cynthia Avery, Assistant Vice President for Student Life, "but this is a time to rewrite your story." 2nd Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony Did you know USD hosts a community-wide tree lighting ceremony? This year it was held on November 27,2018 and included a faux ice rink along with carolers, refreshments and arts and crafts. We hope to see you next year! The Engineering Exchange for Social Justice: Did you know the Engineering Exchange is turning community-defined "problem briefs" into actionable student assignments, design projects, research theses or extra-curricular pro-bono engineering projects that are supported by local professional engineers.
