Honoring Trailblazers in the SDCCD Community
The San Diego Community College District’s longest-serving Chancellor, Dr. Constance Carroll, made a profound impact on the district and its students. Dr. Carroll was the driving force behind the San Diego Promise, one of the largest free-tuition programs in California. The San Diego Promise benefits students from low-income and traditionally underrepresented racial and ethnic communities as they pursue higher education.
To honor Dr. Carroll’s legacy, the University of San Diego has created ten full-tuition scholarships designated for students who have graduated from one of the three San Diego Community College District schools (Mesa, Miramar and City College). Please note only new entering transfer students are eligible for this scholarship.The deadline for the fall term is June 30th and the deadline for the spring term is December 1st.
All SDCCD students are welcome to apply. Priority will be given to applicants who have:
- completed (or be in the process of completing by the time of enrolling at USD) an Associate’s Degree from one of the three schools in the San Diego Community College District
- graduated from a public high school in San Diego Unified School District
- filed the FAFSA by USD’s priority deadline for the academic year the students wish to enroll
- submitted the Transfer Common Application by USD’s priority deadline for the academic year the students wish to enroll
- completed a short supplemental Carroll Trailblazer Scholarship form providing examples of their own “changemaking” and “trailblazing” activities/work, showcasing their commitment to social justice and its impact on the community
- provide a professional letter of recommendation from someone who can speak to the impact of the applicant’s changemaking/trailblazing work. Recommenders can send the letter to transfer@sandiego.edu and should include the subject of “Carroll Trailblazer Letter of Rec”
