Jenniffer C. Perez Lopez, PhD, received her PhD in Sociology with an emphasis in Chicano/Latino Studies at UC Irvine. Her current research investigates the impact of undocumented status on the daily lives of Central American migrants and their children. Specifically, she focuses on Central Americans, to broaden the field on how a ‘minority within a minority’ can be both incorporated and ostracized in the U.S. Her published work on Socius and Immigration Policy and Immigrant Families, captures the legal violence undocumented individuals navigate while highlighting their agentic decision-making process. Additionally, she developed a new methodological approach, a community ethnography published in Sociological Perspectives, that utilizes a logic of collective care. Her research is rooted in her own immigrant background, striving to center her community in the process.
