Michelle Kennedy began teaching at USD in the Fall of 2019. A former television news reporter and anchor at KRON4 in San Francisco, she shot, wrote, edited, and presented stories live for multiple newscasts. Kennedy draws on her experience reporting in top Northern California news markets to teach students what they can realistically expect from a career in media.

Professional Experience

Kennedy has been teaching for the past decade in the Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts Department at San Francisco State University and in the Communications and Media Technologies Department at Academy of Art University. She also builds curriculum and courses in multimedia production including Radio & TV News Writing, Broadcast Journalism, Digital Marketing, Branding, Transmedia Storytelling, Multiplatform Production, Media Performance and Gender, Race, and Class in the Media.

Kennedy published her first book, Don’t Pee in the Wetsuit, in 2016 and is a regular contributor to HuffPost, Elephant Journal, and Tiny Buddha. Her essays focus on dealing with loss, self-compassion, body image, sobriety, and moving through trauma.
