STRATEGIC PILLARS
Our strategic pillars, created summer 2021, provided a framework that allowed CDev to remain agile in a changing environment and provided shared direction and goals for the team. We are proud of the work we accomplished to continue our support of students, alumni, employers, faculty and the entire Torero community with intentionality. Read about the highlights accomplished this year below.
GOAL 1: Expand early career exploration among first-year, second-year and new transfer student populations through enhanced career fair marketing.
COMPLETED ACTIONS:
- Developed and sent targeted newsletter messages to first-year, second-year, and transfer students, specifically sharing exploration tips that welcome, prepare, and support students.
- Promoted career fair attendance in LLC/TLC classrooms and with LLC/TLC faculty.
- Surveyed recruiters about their preferences in connecting with younger students and those in the exploration stage.
- Created a list in Handshake, accessible during the virtual fair, that provided ways to use the fair as an exploration tool.
GOAL 2: Incorporate identity based topics and questions into existing CDev programming with employers.
COMPLETED ACTIONS:
- Built a list of 15 employer partners from a range of organizations willing to speak about a variety of identities.
- Audited current programs to identify opportunities to add identity-related questions into existing panels and workshops.
GOAL 3: Increase campus collaborations through an improved system of liaisons.
COMPLETED ACTIONS:
- Defined liaison language, expectations and outcomes on a larger campus-wide scale.
- Created liaison teams that offer students more touch points with CDev counselors, programs and events.
GOAL: Educate the TEAM (Torero Employer and Alumni Mentors) community about the TEAM’s features and functions and share career insights and resources that will benefit community users.
COMPLETED ACTIONS:
- Created a road map documenting how to showcase and share TEAM’s success with the wider USD community.
- Incorporated superuser tips into the TEAM monthly newsletter.
GOAL 1: Increase communication and awareness about the Career Readiness Program to students.
COMPLETED ACTIONS:
- Sent text/MyUSD app reminders to students about CRP per semester.
- Added a survey question to undergraduate students about CRP award.
GOAL 2: Share relevant marketing stories and statistics to liaisons, Deans, Executive Council, and Board of Trustees.
COMPLETED ACTION:
- Streamlined the collection of stories and statistics into internal databases accessible by the entire team.
GOAL 3: Increase relevance through assessment of all-campus engagement, focusing on student feedback.
COMPLETED ACTIONS:
- Held regular “impact meetings” where the team discusses success/failures of work with an improvement mindset.
