Kwanzaa is a week-long annual celebration held in the United States and other nations of the African diapora in the Americas to honor African heritage in African-American culture. It is observed from December 26 to January 1, culminating in gift-giving and a feast. Kwanzaa has seven core principles (Nguzo Saba). It was created by Maulana Karenga and was first celebrated in 1966. On Friday, December 13 from 7-9 p.m. in UC Forum C, BSU will host Kwanzaa for the night and it will feature a huge dinner and various performances. Part of the Kwanzaa dinner includes a segment about the 7 Principles of Kwanzaa: Umoja (unity), Kujichagulia (self-determination), Ujima (collective work and responsibility), Ujamaa (cooperative economics), Nia (purpose), Kuumba (creativity), Imani (faith).
