Copley Library: A Remotely Successful Resource

Just as the University of San Diego continues to monitor and adjust to COVID-19 protocols and do its best to serve the student population, one of its most important resources, Copley Library, has also been successful in its remote operations.

Theresa Byrd, EdD, dean of the university library, took time out of her busy schedule to discuss library services that students, faculty and staff at USD can utilize.

Current USD students can now request most Copley materials using the “Request It” feature in the library’s catalog and retrieve their items using a new contactless curbside pick-up service. Students should use the link included in an email they receive once their items are ready to schedule a pick-up time. Pick-ups are by appointment only and can be scheduled Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All book returns are quarantined for 72 hours before the next loan is allowed. All other materials are quarantined for 96 hours before the next loan is allowed. Students must follow all safety protocols outlined in the reservation notice.

For USD students located outside San Diego County that need library materials mailed to them through US Postal Service, please complete the Home Delivery Opt-in Form to see if they are eligible for this service.

The library continues to offer research assistance to students remotely via the Ask-A-Librarian service, including after-hours chat assistance. Copley Library also offers a variety of virtual workshops in September and October to help students succeed in the classroom.
