Congratulations USD SON ARCS Scholars

Congratulations USD SON ARCS Scholars

The Faculty, Staff, and Students at The Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science congratulate our 2020 ARCS Scholars.  These scholars will represent USD SON at the upcoming Scientist of the Year event, which ARCS (Achievement Rewards for College Scientists) holds each year.  Typically, the event is a dinner with a keynote speaker, but this year because of the pandemic, it will be held virtually.  The event takes place on September 13.  USD SON will be represented by the following PhD students or recent PhD graduates:

Byron Batz, 2nd Year PhD student.  Byron's research focus is on the caregiver's burden and its effects on the health of the caregiver.  You can hear Byron talk a little about his project here.

Dr. Nicole Martinez.  Dr. Martinez graduated with her PhD in May 2020.  Her research focus was on skin and soft tissue infections in the emergency department.  Dr. Martinez is a professor at USD SON and also works as a nurse practitioner at a local hospital.  You can hear Dr. Martinez talk a little about her research here.

Brooke Rakes.  Brooke is a 2nd year PhD student at USD SON.  Her research focuses on the timing of therapeutic hypothermia and short-term infant outcomes.  You can hear Brooke talk about her appreciation for ARCS here.

You can also watch her presentation to ARCS at their Annual Membership Meeting, which was held virtually, here.

Also attending from USD SON:  Dean Jane M. Georges, Dr. Cynthia Connelly, Dr. Kathy Marsh, Dr. Sue Hoyt, and Dr. Caroline Etland.

USDSON is grateful to ARCS for their support of our nurse scientists!
