We Care About You! Health and Wellness During COVID-19

The last few months have been a challenging and life-adjusting period. The Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate’s team cares for your well-being during this unprecedented time. We know that there are many changes you have had to make to adjust to this “new normal.” Your health, safety and well-being are on the top of our minds.

With the rapidly changing information regarding COVID-19, it is important that you are taking good care of yourself. Rapid change in the way we conduct our lives can be a startling adjustment, from quickly leaving campus, your friends and your USD family to making adjustments with completing the semester off campus.

We recognize that many of you may still be acclimating to this "new normal" with the stay-at-home-orders. Making sure that you self-care is even more important now, during this pandemic. We want to share a few helpful tips and resources to help facilitate your adjustment. Kudos to you if you have already incorporated these recommendations into your daily routine.

  1. Stay in touch with friends and family remotely
    • Schedule ZOOM theme get-togethers
    • Send a note in the mail letting them know you are thinking of them
    • Call to check in with family and friends.
  2. Establish a routine and also be spontaneous! Make sure you laugh often.

  3. Develop a plan for major life changes, post-graduation and seeking employment:
    • Review your resume and cover letter and have it ready to go
    • Take the McQuaig assessment, if you have not already done so, to determine the best career path and real estate position to match your strengths
    • Set up a LinkedIn account and profile that focuses on your strengths and selling points to market yourself
    • Set up job alerts on websites (like Indeed.com and LinkedIn.com) to receive alerts on open positions
    • Research positions and companies that are hiring
    • Find USD alumni at these companies and request an informational call to determine company culture and which positions are for recent graduates
    • Set up a mock interview session and develop elevator pitches to prepare for upcoming interviews
    • Send personalized thank you notes to professionals that you meet with to thank them for their time and for the opportunity to interview you
    • Reach out to mentors and the Burnham-Moores Center team for advice and guidance.

The Burnham-Moores Center’s mission is student-centric. During this time of isolation, I have reflected that my position at the center is the best job I have ever had. Why, you may ask? For those of you that have taken the McQuaig assessment, I am a highly social individual. Not being able to personally interact with our students face-to-face has restricted my ability to socialize and minimize this trait which is not ideal in the long-term. I think of each of you and look forward to the day, hopefully in the not too distant future, when I can visit with each of you again in person and that each of you will come visit us at the BMC to study, say hello, grab coffee or better yet, ring the hiring bell! Here is the virtual bell for those of you that have a job or internship!

Email me if you would like to schedule a phone or Zoom appointment.
