Undergraduate Research Opportunities
Toreros have many opportunities to engage in research, scholarship, and/or creative activities during their time at USD. All students from all disciplines are encouraged to participate in some type of research, scholarly, or creative experience. Two great ways to get experience outside of the classroom is through SURE (Summer Undergraduate Research Experience) and Creative Collaborations.
The SURE program is open to any undergraduates who want to conduct an independent research or scholarly project during the summer. Students who are interested in applying should identify a USD faculty mentor and write a project proposal. Here are some sample proposals and a list of previously funded projects. Students who are awarded a SURE grant are eligible for discounted on-campus summer housing and are invited to a variety of professional and social events.
The deadline to submit a SURE application is February 10, 2012.
Not ready to participate in SURE? Not to worry! USD’s annual Creative Collaborations event is another way to get involved in research, scholarship, and creative activities. Students who have conducted a project in collaboration with a professor may present their work as a poster or interactive exhibit. Students who haven't yet participated in research are invited to attend the event and learn more about projects that other students have done.
The deadline for submissions is February 24, 2012 at 5pm.
The Creative Collaborations online submission site will open on February 6, 2012. Please direct any questions about the event to firstname.lastname@example.org.
