Nilmini Silva-Send, Ph.D., Assistant Director of Energy Policy Initiatives Center Nominated for Unsung Hero Award

Nilmini Silva-Send, Assistant Director, Energy Policy Initiatives Center, University of San Diego School of Law and C. Hugh Friedman Fellow in Energy Law and Policy, has been nominated for the Unsung Hero Award by San Diego Climate Action. 

Dr. Nilmini Silva-Send is nominated for being the gold standard technical expert used by almost every city in the region for climate planning. Dr. Silva-Send leads EPIC’s Climate Planning work and supports cities in the San Diego region.

She has been instrumental in developing regional approaches to estimating greenhouse gas emissions, the impacts of energy and climate policies to reduce emissions, and processes to implement and monitor progress.

She currently leads EPIC’s work funded through a contract with the San Diego Association of Governments to develop a regional framework for climate planning including regular GHG inventories and climate plans and monitoring for cities in the region, a regional inventory to support SANDAG, the City of San Diego’s climate action plan monitoring, and evaluating the water energy nexus through a TSDF grant..

As Climate Action Campaign notes, Dr. Silva-Send is a trusted source of technical expertise and has worked with most of the cities in our region.
