Student Positions with the Office of Sustainability


Undergraduate Assistant Positions

The Office of Sustainability has a robust student assistantship program that provides outreach opportunities to engage the campus in embracing a sustainable lifestyle and environmental stewardship. If you are a student interested in making a difference on campus by working on sustainability issues and initiatives, consider applying for a position with our office. Assistantships are available every academic year and are posted on Handshake when applications are being accepted.

The following undergraduate assistantship positions are currently filled:

  • Eco-Resident Program Student Assistant: Engages with students on campus regarding their sustainable behaviors within the confines of their living quarters, particularly in regards to energy and water conservation. View full Eco-Resident Program Student Assistant job description.
  • Education Student Assistant: Presents on sustainability topics and initiatives to the USD community, helping to educate on how the campus community can engage in sustainability practices. View full Education Student Assistant job description.
  • Green Office Program Student Assistant: Engages with departments on campus to audit their sustainable practices and recommend more environmentally-friendly practices and procedures, particularly in regards to energy and water conservation. View full Green Office Program Student Assistant job description.
  • Marketing and Communications Student AssistantAssists with all marketing and promotional materials to educate and inform the USD community about sustainability programs, events, and initiatives. Updates the Office of Sustainability website with articles and event information. Maintains the social media presence for the Office.  View full Marketing and Communications Student Assistant job description. 
  • Special Projects Student AssistantAssists with efforts to advance zero waste initiatives and educate the USD community on zero waste practices.  Assists with coordination and implementation of events hosted/co-hosted by the Office of Sustainability. Graduate Assistant Positions

Graduate assistantships are available annually, typically starting in late summer.  Students in these positions have the opportunity to educate the campus community about USD’s sustainability initiatives, plan and market sustainability-related events, and exercise leadership skills through advising undergraduate student assistants.  Assistantship positions are posted on Handshake when available.

The following graduate assistantship positions are currently filled:

  • Education and Events Graduate Assistant: Develops and administers sustainability presentations to academic classes and student groups. Creates materials to educate the campus community with regards to sustainable practices.  Coordinates and executes Office of Sustainability events.  Acts as an advisor to undergraduate student assistants and Be Blue Go Green student organization.  View full Education and Events Graduate Assistant job description.
