Our tutors come from various majors and disciplines across the academic spectrum. Subjects vary per academic year. Please see the "Meet Our Tutors" tab for information about which subjects and courses are being currently being offered.
Please email sss@sandiego.edu to set up tutoring appointments. Include the tutors name, the subject in which tutoring is needed, as well as any additional information that may be relevant for the tutor.
Additionally, tutors hold open office-hours throughout the week. Please see the "Meet Our Tutors" tab for specific days and times. All open office-hours will be held in our UC 113 space.
Tutors holding open office-hours throughout the week are available in the SSS office located in UC 113.
If an appointment has been made outside of a tutors open office-hours, it will be up to the tutor and tutee to determine the best meeting space for tutoring services.
If you are unable to make your appointment, please send an email to sss@sandiego.edu and contact the specific tutor to inform them of the cancellation/change in appointment. Please give as much notice as possible.
If you fail to notify SSS that you will be missing a scheduled appointment, a “No-Show” report will be filed. After a certain number of "No-Show" reports have been filed, your access to Tutoring Services may be restricted at the discretion of the Director.
When you come into the SSS office, be sure to sign in on the iPad Kiosk and select "Tutoring" as the reason for your visit. At the end of each tutoring session, you and the tutor will fill out a form that will help keep track of your hours.
Our SSS Tutors have a limited schedule and only host about 6 office hours per week. While SSS does not limit how many hours you can work with a tutor it’s important to note that tutors are required to support every student that stops by during office hours. Therefore, plan accordingly.
Be sure to remember anything you may need from the class, including any and all textbooks, class notes, class handouts, homework, and any returned tests or quizzes. The more information you have, the more the tutors will be able to help.
On the first day that you meet with the tutor, you will both fill out a Tutor-Student Contract that will serve as your agreement to show up on time, be prepared for each meeting, and to stay focused during the meeting. It also requires the student to agree to attend all scheduled classes.
Please reach out to your professor or the department chair. Most often than not, they will be able to direct you to someone who can assist you.
Try reaching out to your fellow classmates as well. A lot of students love putting together study groups and reviewing for quizzes & exams together. If you believe your classmate would make an awesome tutor, encourage them to apply for a tutor position within SSS (they do not have to be a SSS student in order to tutor for our program.
If you’ve tried all of the above and still have been unsuccessful, please contact us at sss@sandiego.edu. We will do our best to contact the department on your behalf and try to find a tutor that best fits your needs.
