How to Participate

The STEAM Team Summer Academy is a week-long hands-on, at-home learning in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM). Independently or with your family, connectwith other students and instructors virtually to engage
in the following:

  • Explore mathematical concepts through folding and visualization.
  • Build contraptions and explore electricity throughcircuits.
  • Participate in team building through fitness and theatre activities.
  • Apply engineering design principles to collaborate on virtual STEAM projects with a social justice focus.

To attend the academy, students must apply and submit a $375 payment. 

Once a student has applied for the academy, they will be notified of their acceptance by a member of the STEAM Team. Upon their acceptance, they will need to submit emergency contact and liability information.


The STEAM Team Teacher Academy is a week long at-home experiential learning experience for educators. Participants will engage in guided explorations and discussions on important readings in the areas of STEM equity, culturally contextualized STEM learning, and productive struggle. These concepts will be put into practice during daily online STEAM activity sessions with middle and high school students, and their families.

Teacher Academy participants will have the opportunity to engage in these sessions both as learners and co-facilitators. Each day will conclude with a debrief of /reflection on the day’s STEAM activity.

  • Develop skills in the use of folding and mathematical games for facilitating the development of mathematical thinking and visualization
  • Apply the engineering design process to facilitate creative problem solving
