• Only SOLES full-time tenured, tenure-track faculty, professors of practice and postdocs with first author status may submit to the writing center
• Assistant professors and postdocs may submit two works per semester
• Associate professors, full professors and professors of practice may submit one work per semester

No. Only course assignments are eligible for feedback from the SGWC coaches. Please visit the USD Career Center for help with resumes and cover letters.

No. We only offer virtual appointments. All consultations are held via Zoom.

Writing coaches will spend one to two hours reviewing your work and will provide substantive feedback. Once they return your work, you will have the opportunity to schedule a virtual appointment via Zoom to discuss the feedback further.

The goal of the SGWC is to support the development of better writers, not just better papers. Therefore our writing coaches focus on helping students develop the skills to independently revise their own writing. For assistance with APA or citations, please refer to the resources tab above.

SOLES partners with Heartful Editor to provide graduate students with writing coaching and feedback to promote successful writing development.

• Provides coaching and editing support to students, faculty and academic and career professionals on academic writing and the mechanics of style
• Suggest alternative words or phrases and guide writers on flow, sentence and paragraph structure and organization of ideas overall
• Present students, faculty and academic and career professionals with a thorough overview of areas that need attention and improvement
• Track all edits and changes for the client to review and accept

• Write content for students, faculty or academic and career professionals
• Assess the validity of sources (we edit for consistency with the citation style, not the quality of the sources themselves)
• Check for plagiarism or accept responsibility for plagiarism (we expect that the content provided to us is original and that paraphrased or quoted material is cited in alignment with style guidelines)
• Guarantee the project will achieve the client’s intended goal (we do our best to ensure precise and thorough editing and formatting, but the success of the project as a whole rests solely with the author)
• Accommodate poor planning or failure to submit materials on time (the quality of our work, and therefore your project, is affected by a tight deadline)
