Who We Are

Established in 2002, The Nonprofit Institute was conceived in recognition of the need to build an MBA-type program tailored to nonprofit professionals, to support and strengthen the growing field of nonprofits and philanthropy across the San Diego region. Housed in the School of Leadership Studies and Education Sciences (SOLES), The Institute was designed from its inception to advance the University of San Diego's commitment to academic excellence, expanding liberal and professional knowledge, creating a diverse and inclusive community, and preparing leaders who are dedicated to ethical conduct and compassionate service.

The Nonprofit Institute delivers high-quality research, education, and training to develop mission-driven leaders and organizations committed to building a better world.

The University of San Diego (USD) is the standard for an engaged, contemporary Catholic university where innovative changemakers confront humanity’s urgent challenges. Within this context, the Institute builds a strong foundation for the next generation of leaders, nonprofits and philanthropy working together with government, business and the community for the common good.
