Dr. Venus E. Evans-Winters is Professor and Director of PhD Programs in the School of Leadership and Education Sciences at the University of San Diego. A scholar, clinician, and intellectual activist, her work bridges education policy, Black feminist thought, critical pedagogy, and healing-centered leadership. She is the author of ten books and numerous journal articles and book chapters examining the intersections of race, gender, education, location, and power.
With more than twenty years in higher education and over a decade as a licensed clinical social worker and complex trauma therapist, Dr. Evans-Winters is committed to cultivating learning environments that foster resilience, equity, and liberation. Her research and teaching emphasize qualitative inquiry, intersectionality, and understanding psycho-spiritual and sociocultural processes of resilience of people across the African Diaspora. She also advises national organizations advancing racial and gender justice. A dedicated mindfulness practitioner, she approaches meditation and running with equal parts humor and determination.
