Donna Barnes, Ph.D., explores areas of interests that include language acquisition, literacy development, charter schools, children and adolescent literature, including use of that literature to explore GLBTQ issues. Crossing all these areas is a commitment to school practices that promote social justice, cultural awareness, cooperative learning, and democratic education within a constructivist framework. She has worked with teachers and students in Honduras, Chile, and Lithuania. Her most recent research is about children's preferences in poetry.
