The field experiences courses (COUN 588P Practicum and COUN 590F Fieldwork) represent major benchmarks in the master's level theory to practice training of students in the school counseling specializations, as they are the supervised clinical experiences providing direct services to K-12 students. Students enroll in practicum and then yearlong fieldwork.

The fieldwork course in School Settings
COUN 590F
- Counseling experience in public schools and agencies working with school-aged children
- 3-unit course enhancing knowledge, skills and dispositions
- Final two semesters in the program
- Required to complete a minimum of 800 hours with 240 hours of direct service to students

The program offers a broad range of practicum opportunities to work with diverse client populations and present issues. Students choose where to complete their clinical work from a list of pre-approved agencies and practicum sites that best matches their interests and needs.
