Assistant Professor

Saundra M. Tabet is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Counseling & Marital and Family Therapy at the University of San Diego. She completed her Ph.D. in Counselor Education at the University of Central Florida (UCF), and received her M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and B.A. in Psychology from the University of South Alabama. 

Dr. Tabet is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of Florida, a National Certified Counselor (NCC), a National Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC) and an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS). Her background as a mental health counselor and former Division I student-athlete led to her passion for supporting the mental wellness of elite-level athletes. As such, she has conducted sponsored trainings and research promoting the socio-emotional health of intercollegiate athletes. Specifically, Dr. Tabet’s research investigates the stigma of mental illness in sport culture and mechanisms for reducing its prevalence. In addition, Dr. Tabet’s scholarly work focuses on scale development, instrument validation, and therapeutic outcome measures in counseling. 

She is an active member in several professional organizations including the American Counseling Association (ACA), the Association for Assessment and Research in Counseling (AARC), and the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES).
