Building Trust

In 2017, the Kroc IPJ helped launch the Building Trust Partnership with the goal of strengthening relationships and building trust between law enforcement and communities. Through a participatory process that included community, faith, and law enforcement leaders, the Kroc IPJ produced the Building Trust Handbook. The Handbook outlines concrete strategies that faith leaders can use to improve police-community relations. The Handbook has now been translated into Spanish and Arabic. It can be downloaded for free below. Please feel free to reach out to the Kroc IPJ (ipj@sandiego.edu) if you would like guidance or support in using the Handbook to create stronger police-community relationships in your community.

The Building Trust Handbook

Building Trust to end violence and improve public safety requires certain knowledge and skills. Convening a community dialogue requires facilitation skills while working with survivors of violence demands trauma-informed care. The Building Trust Handbook details 15 different approaches organized around five “Pathways to Building Trust."
