Transfer Fall Orientation

This program is especially designed for you, a transfer student, to get the essential information you need to make a smooth transition to USD. Our goal is for you to:

  • Stack of orientation programs.Get Informed: Find out about the history, mission, and core values that make USD a unique place.
  • Meet Your Fan Club: Meet the student leaders and staff here to support you as a new transfer student this semester and beyond
  • Find Your Place: Learn about how you can get involved in the Torero community and connect with other new transfers and continuing students.
  • Learn the Ropes: Receive essential information about requirements, resources, and campus departments to ensure you have a great start at USD.

A general schedule is below; optional sessions are identified with an asterisk (*). You are expected to attend all other sessions. A detailed schedule will be provided to you when you check in for Transfer Fall Orientation. Be sure to confirm your attendance in your MySanDiego Portal and let us know about any accommodations you may require in advance of Transfer Fall Orientation. Parents and family members are welcome to participate in Parent Orientation; tickets may be required.

Saturday, August 29: Move-In Day for Residential Students

Time Event Description
9:00 am Resident Student Move-In Begins Detailed move-in instructions are available in the USD Arrival Guide for your specific housing area.
5:00 pm            Resident Student and Family Dinner* Meet Residential Life staff and students living in your area and share a meal. Tickets required for family members
6:30 pm Resident Student Community Meeting Learn about the resources available you as a resident student, as well as hall expectations.
7:30 pm Resident Student Casino Night* Try your luck playing casino games and meet other residential students.

Sunday, August 30: Transfer Fall Orientation - Day One

Time Event Description
10:30 am Commuter Fall Orientation Check-In Opens Student not living on campus check-in to receive Fall Orientation Materials. Check-in will be open until 12:30 pm.
11:15 am            Mass of Welcome* All new students and their family members of all denominations are invited to attend.
12:30 pm Lunch with Orientation Small Group Meet your orientation leader and other students in your small group.
Transfer Convocation A special ceremony officially welcoming you into the USD academic community.
Student Panel Hear straight from other transfer students how they found their place and community at USD.
5:00 pm Transfer Student Social* Connect with your peers and students who transferred in previous semesters.

Monday, August 31: Transfer Fall Orientation - Day Two

Time Event Description
9:00 am Community at USD You will learn what it means to be a USD student, and the expectations we have for you in our community.
11:15 am            College-Specific Academic Orientation Learn more about your college, major, requirements and resources available to you within your chosen school.
12:30 pm Lunch with Orientation Small Group
Transfer Preceptorial Meeting* Meet your professor and learn about this unique course especially for transfer students.
Using MySanDiego Portal and u.Achieve* If you did not attend a Summer Registration Day, this session is required.
Campus Tour* A current student will help you find your classes.
4:00 pm Night at San Diego Zoo* Join other new students for dinner and the chance to explore the zoo!
7:30 pm USD Soccer Game* Show your support for Torero Athletics!
