Settle Outstanding Financial Obligations

Financial obligations listed below must be settled prior to your graduation date in order for you to receive your diploma. Failure to fulfill these obligations may also result in your account being sent to an external collection agency. This may have a negative impact on your credit and your ability to borrow money in the future.

  • Return all property belonging to the university – library and rented books, equipment, etc.
  • Pay all Student Health Center fees.
  • Settle other balances due on your student account.
  • Complete your Exit Counseling for you Federal Loans.
  • Know who your loan provider is and when you must begin making payments. Find out more information by going to the Federal Student Aid Website.

To ensure your financial obligations to the University of San Diego are met, please check your current balance on your My Online Student Account in the My.SanDiego portal, or contact at 619.260.2700, or visit a Counselor at the One Stop Student Center located in University Center, Room 126.

Exit Counseling

What is Exit Counseling?

Exit counseling provides important information to prepare you to repay your federal student loan(s) once you leave school. If you have received a subsidized, unsubsidized or PLUS loan under the Direct Loan Program or the FFEL Program, you must complete exit counseling each time you:

  • Drop below half-time enrollment
  • Graduate
  • Leave school

Who should complete this?

Students who have received a subsidized, unsubsidized or PLUS loan(s) under the Direct Loan Program or the FFEL Program, must complete exit counseling each time they drop below half-time enrollment, graduate, or leave school.

Where do I complete it? 

You can complete the Exit Loan Counseling on the Federal Student Aid Website by logging in with your FSA ID Username and Password.  

How long will it take?

The entire counseling process must be completed in a single session. Most people complete counseling in 20-30 minutes.

What do I need?

  1. Verified FSA ID
  2. Details on your income, financial aid, and living expenses
  3. Names, addresses, e-mail addresses and phone numbers
