USD Campus Based Loans

USD Campus Based loans are maintained through the University of San Diego, rather than through a private lender or a federal loan servicer. The Loan Administration and Student Account Resolution Department is part of Student Financial Services at the University of San Diego. Some of our responsibilities include the administration, disbursement, and collection of student loans managed by our department such as the USD Trust Loan and Nurse Faculty Loan Program.

About the USD Trust Loan:

The USD Trust Loan is only available for Undergraduate students from California High Schools and your eligibility will be determined by completing a FAFSA each year. You will only be offered the Trust loan if you are eligible to receive it for that academic year.

The USD Trust Loan is for full time Undergraduate students (12-18 units). It is offered at a maximum of $4,000 per year. The USD Trust Loan is 0% interest for students who are not in default on their loan payments. Repayment will start 9 months after graduation.

Application Requirements:

Accept The Loan:

Accept the USD Trust Loan from your Financial Aid award on your Financial Aid page of the My San Diego Portal.

USD Trust Loan Application:

A Self-Certification Form will be added to your portal under the Financial Aid page in the Financial Aid Requirements section. You will need to print out, complete the application, and submit it in person at the drop box outside of Hughes Center 209 or via mail to the USD Loan Administration Office (email/fax not accepted). This application must be submitted each year that you are offered the USD Trust Loan.

If you have questions about how to complete the Self-Certification Form for the Trust Loan that is added on your portal please email onestop@sandiego.edu for assistance.

Master Promissory Note:

The Master Promissory Note (MPN) will also be listed as a red flag on your Financial Aid Requirements section. This is an electronic document signed on the Heartland ECSI website. The MPN will become available on your portal to complete 1 day after you have accepted the USD Trust Loan via your portal.  You will be sent an email with a PIN for this process, if you cannot locate that email please reach out to loanadmin@sandiego.edu to get it re-sent to you.

Exit Interview Process:

Usually around 4-6 weeks after graduating, or leaving USD, you should receive an email from ESCI Heartland for an Exit Interview that must be completed to start the repayment process. Failure to do the Exit Interview will result in a hold on your account, which will hold your transcripts, diploma, and the possibility of going into default on your loan if you do not start repayment 9 months after graduating or leaving USD.

About the USD Combined Special Loan:

If you have submitted the USD Dream Act or California Dream Act Application, you may be offered a USD Combined Special loan. Loan amounts offered will vary depending on grade level and if you are an undergraduate or graduate student. You must complete all requirements listed on your student portal and have an approved co-signer who must also be approved for the loan.

Note: Cosigner must be 21 years of age, must be a US citizen, and have an established credit history.

Once all documentation is submitted a team member will review it and approve or reject the co-signer per the requirements.  If the co-signer is approved, a team member will prepare the Master Promissory Note for the student to sign as the final document. Please contact loanadmin@sandiego.edu if you have any questions about the status of your documentation submissions and status of your USD Combined Special Loan.

Exit Interview Process:

Usually around 4-6 weeks after graduating, or leaving USD, you should receive an email from ESCI Heartland for an Exit Interview that must be completed to start the repayment process.
