Financial Aid Appeals

Students whose family experienced a change in financial circumstances that will lower the student’s family resources may be eligible for a re-evaluation of their federal and /or state aid eligibility after federal verification has been completed. In order to be considered for a special circumstances calculation, the student must meet specific guidelines, explain the circumstances in a letter, and provide documentation of the change.

2020-2021 (current)

For Dependent Students

*Important: In order to complete the Dependent appeal eForm, the student and parent will FIRST need to complete the Student Electronic Transactions Agreement AND the Parent Electronic Transactions Agreement eForms. 

For Independent & Graduate Students

*Important: In order to complete the Graduate & Independent appeal eForm, the student will FIRST need to complete the Student Electronic Transactions Agreement eForm. 

Processing Time: 3-4 weeks

The University of San Diego utilizes standardized budgets in determining a student's cost of education during an academic year. The items included in the budget are tuition, fees, books and supplies, room and board, transportation, personal necessities, and loan fees (when applicable).

Occasionally, a student will have extenuating circumstances during the academic year that require an adjustment to the standardized budget. Please click on the link below for instructions on how to submit your budget increase appeal.

Processing Time:  2-3 weeks

Students must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) in order to receive federal and state funds. If a student has extenuating circumstances that prevented them from maintaining SAP, they may appeal using the form below.
