Call for Participants for the 2020/2021 Johnson Fellows Program

A Teacher-Led Inclusive Practice Initiative: Disability Diversity

The Johnson Family Foundation in collaboration with USD’s School of Leadership and Education Sciences (SOLES) and the Department of Learning and Teaching is offering an opportunity for local educators in San Diego County who wish to deepen their understanding of best teaching practices for supporting students with disabilities in inclusive classrooms and to become leaders in their own school communities. Johnson Fellows will reflect on their teaching practices, learn how cultural and social contexts influence students’ achievement and behavior, and create support networks for colleagues. They will consider alternative and creative ways to teach and assess students and learn how to provide a more inclusive learning environment.

Johnson Fellows requirements:

  • Be a general education teacher with a minimum of 2 years’ teaching experience
  • Have demonstrated an interest in developing professionally and becoming teacher leaders and change agents at your school site
  • Have shown a commitment to a long-term engagement with issues of equity and diversity

Benefits: As a Johnson Fellow, you will:

  1. be invited to a Kick-Off event on May 4th
  2. participate in a week-long seminar from June 22-26 (with an opportunity to earn graduate-level extension units)
  3. agree to share what you learn by leading professional development at your own school site
  4. present your work at a year-end celebration
  5. 5and can receive a $400 grant to support inclusion in your own classroom.
