USD’s Sigma Delta Awarded Chapter of the Year

USD’s Sigma Delta was recently awarded Chapter of the Year (large chapter) by Chi Sigma Iota (CSI). CSI is an international honors society for counselors that currently has 130,000 initiated members and more than 400 chapters have been chartered world wide.

“This award means that our chapter was selected as the best chapter in the entire country. Added significance, this award is typically won by universities that have doctoral counseling programs and the chapter is run primarily by doctoral students. This award recognizes the excellent work our students have been doing within the chapter and in the San Diego community,” Jessie Du Pre, current Sigma Delta Chapter President and School Based Clinical Counseling student.

Chi Sigma Delta is the chapter that operates at USD within the School of Leadership and Education Sciences and is comprised of 147 active members including graduate students, alumni, and faculty. The Sigma Delta Chapter is dedicated to promoting and developing future counselors’ professional growth while fostering a sense of community within the Sigma Delta Chapter.

In the past year, the chapter put on 14 events centered around professional development, community service, and social connection. In 2020 the chapter plans to executed even more opportunities, including a suicide assessment workshop, volunteering with the Rainbow Run at ACA, working with burn survivors at a survivor retreat, a solution focused techniques workshop, Counseling Practice Club, and more.
