The 4th Annual Leadership Mentor Dinner was held on Wednesday, April 24th at La Gran Terraza.  Mentors and students came together for an evening of networking, excellent conversation, and a lovely dinner.

Sarah Zakaria was recognized as the 2019 Mentor of the year.  She was nominated by Alyssa Thompson, a student in the MA in Nonprofit Leadership Program.  Alyssa noted "Sarah exemplifies what it means to be a strong, intelligent, resilient and compassionate person. It has been an absolute delight to learn from her experience and reflective mentoring as I progress personally and professionally."  Sarah has formally mentored for four years and informally mentored several USD undergraduate nonprofit students for many years prior to coming to this program.

The Student of the Year Award went to Myra Dang.  Myra is a student in the MA in Nonprofit Leadership program.  She was nominated by Rebecca Hayes.  Rebecca stated "Myra is simply amazing on countless levels, and I continue to be impressed by her character and drive.  She is ever so dedicated to giving and serving others in need. She is extremely driven and hardworking all while keeping a humble heart and mind."

The mentor program is open to all Master of Arts students in the Department of Leadership Studies, and all undergraduate students enrolled in the Leadership Studies Minor or the Nonprofit Leadership program.  If you are interested in being a mentor or working with a mentor, please contact Teresa VanHorn, or go to www.sandiego.edu/leadershipmentorprogram to apply.
