Impact:Peace Launches New Twitter Account

Tuesday, January 21, 2020

begin quoteToday, we are more connected with information and what we need to do in order to prevent violence, in order to build peace, and in order to create more resilient societies.
In January, and in service to the Kroc IPJ's mission to co-create and share learning with those working to end cycles of violence, Impact:Peace launched a Twitter account, @impactpeace. By following this account you can stay updated on developments from the Impact Peace Initiative, including engaging with the content we're creating and curating related to violence reduction and prevention. Watch the video below to hear the announcement from Rachel Locke, the director of Impact:Peace, or read the video transcript below.

Video Transcript
The world today is experiencing a 30-year high in violent conflict, with a 340% increase in battle deaths in the last 10 years alone. These figures are shocking enough, but so is it also shocking that over 80% of people who die violently every year live in communities, towns, and cities that are ostensibly at peace.

My name is Rachel Locke, I am the Director of Impact:Peace here at the Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice at the University of San Diego. Impact:Peace aims to be a curator of knowledge, bringing evidence, research, data and information to the right people at the right time in order to drive positive change, to create more peaceful societies and a more just world.

Our world is more connected than it's ever been before. We have a front-row seat to the destructive elements of violence and conflict, but we are also more connected with information and what we need to do in order to prevent violence, in order to build peace, and in order to create more resilient societies. We look forward to using Twitter as one of the many tools of information-sharing, and we look forward also to hearing from you, all of our partners, in how we can do better. Thank you so much, we look forward to tweeting with you.
