Stockholm convening

This past week the Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice (Kroc IPJ), ETH: Center for Security Studies (CSS), the Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA) and the European Institute of Peace (EIP) convened 13 women mediators from track 1 peace processes in Stockholm, Sweden. These mediators brought with them a range of perspectives on the contexts they are working in and how their mediation roles (e.g., special envoy, technical advisors and mediation teams) are shaping the outcomes of their efforts.

Additionally this space provided the group with an opportunity to learn from and with each other on how they are navigating the various complex conflicts that they are currently a part of as mediators. One of the major questions explored was how do mediators infuse oxygen and energy back into mediation processes, especially in the many protracted conflicts we see today, where there are status quo sentiments within peace process teams?

This convening is the second of a series of convenings that are bringing together women who have been chief negotiators and mediators in track 1 peace processes. These convenings aim to offer lessons learned as well as practical methods and strategies these two groups are using to navigate the processes they are involved in.
